  • Please share an experience that you have had with visual culture and what it meant to you. Visual culture can include the so-called high arts of painting, sculpture, or architecture but it can also refer to popular media like TV or cinema, illustrations, ads, or even the graphs in a scientific paper.

  • Humanism first developed in ancient Greece and Rome. During the Renaissance humanist ideals became popular once more and informed almost everything that took place in the public realm. How can these ideals be seen in the works of art that were created in the Early Renaissance? How did artists and patrons navigate the opposed values and priorities of both humanism and the Catholic Church? Use examples.
